Brewing Connection with Your Target Audience

A case study in crafting product and lifestyle images for a BC roastery

At Max Koopman Media, we recently had the pleasure of working with a passionate BC-based coffee roastery. They sent us a package of beautifully designed coffee bags, a branded mug, and some fresh beans—everything we needed to help bring their products to life through photography.

With a combination of clean product shots and natural lifestyle imagery, we created a collection of photos designed to not only showcase the details of their brand, but to spark a feeling in the viewer. That feeling—comfort, care, quality—is what creates a true connection with your audience.

Why is product and lifestyle photography important for my audience?

It’s simple: people don’t just buy coffee—they buy what it represents.

Whether it’s the warmth of a slow morning, the ritual of a fresh grind, or the atmosphere of a cozy café, strong visuals help your audience feel that experience before they even take a sip.

When we photographed this roastery’s products, we made sure to capture:

  • The packaging details, to highlight the quality and design

  • Textures and colors, like the rich tones of the beans and matte finish on the mug

  • Lifestyle moments, showing how the product fits naturally into someone’s daily routine

This blend of product and lifestyle photography allows potential customers to imagine your coffee in their life—which is what builds trust, connection, and ultimately, more sales.

How can I portray my brand through photos?

Photography isn’t just about what your product looks like—it’s about what your brand feels like.

For this BC roaster, their brand identity was warm, slow, and handcrafted. We reflected that through natural lighting, wood tones, and scenes that felt personal and relaxed.

When we work with clients, we guide them through a process to make sure every image aligns with their unique brand. That includes:

  • Mood boards to establish style and tone

  • Shot plans to maximize shoot time and ensure variety

  • On-location options for cafés and roasteries (or in-studio for shipped products)

  • Revisions after delivery to make sure every image hits the mark

The Result

The final gallery gave the roastery a suite of versatile images they could use across their website, social media, wholesale materials, and online store. More importantly, it gave them a way to emotionally connect with customers through visuals that felt genuine and on-brand.

Whether you’re a small-batch roaster or a growing café business, visuals are often the first impression you make. Let them reflect who you really are.
